The Rental Kitchen Make-Ready Checklist for DC Apartments

At a showing, people open cabinets. They turn on the light. They run the water. The kitchen is where a unit either feels cared for or doesn't. Here's the list.
Cabinets
- Every door hangs straight and closes
- Every drawer slides and stays shut
- Loose or missing pulls replaced
- Shelf pins in place
Surfaces
- Fresh caulk where the counter meets the backsplash
- Chips and gouges in the counter noted
- Walls patched and painted behind the stove
Lights and fixtures
- Every bulb working, same color throughout
- Under-cabinet lights working if the unit has them
- Cover plates clean and uncracked
Last look
Stand where a tenant would stand and open everything. Anything that sticks, squeaks or wobbles goes on the punch list.
