1. Is there matching material?
Leftover boxes or a product still being sold means a repair can disappear. No match means a patch that shows forever.
2. How much is damaged?
A few planks or one carpet area is a repair. Damage spread across the room usually is not.
3. Where can it stop?
Replacement should end at a doorway or transition, never in the middle of a room. That line decides how much floor gets replaced.
